THE HOTEL IN IN EASY WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE MARKET AREA WITH LOTS OF RESTAURANTS,BEACH NOT FAR AWAY.HOTEL STAFF FRIENDLY.FINE FOR JUST A BASE.

Top Tip

DON'T BOTHER WITH THE INDIAN RESTAUANT NEAR THE HOTEL.FOOD WASN'T UP TTO MUCH NOR THE STEAK HOUSE ON THE WAY TO THE BEACH.PIZZA'S ARE GREAT.

Having booked and paid for two double rooms we were allocated two 'apartments' on arrival with no alternative choice. My room had not been cleaned, even though we arrived after 2PM. The beds were basic fold down beds with tiny pillows. There was no lighting in my bathroom and instead a table lamp was plugged into the socket by the sink. When I compalined about the potential risk of electrocution the man on the desk smiled as if I were mad. The bathroom had no towel rail and little room. The air conditioning was poor even on full setting. Finally mid week, having complained, a room finally came available after a cancellation meaning I could move into a better room which to be fair was fine. My colleague stayed in his apartment room having looked at his alternative which was a smoking room with single bed. Apart from the state of room on arrival, overall cleanliness in the Univers was excellent.

Top Tip

The location of Univers is excellent. Consistency let my stay down, the room I finally ended up with was fine and if I had been given the room I had paid for I'd have no issue. Also, the apartment rooms should be sold very clearly as different rooms. I would'nt advise other travellers not to book the Univers, but I would advise you to be very clear on your expectations of room type...the apartments in my opinion should be priced much lower than the doubles as they are more basic, lacking certain features and in my case certain basic features didn't even work.

For position and cleanliness, fine, but AC not available in April despite warm weather. Hair dryer not working despite daily requests for it to be fixed.
